The former sheriff of Dallas County, Texas is now the Democrat candidate running for governor of the state. Lupe Valdez won yesterday's primary runoff race against businessman Andrew White. Late last night, White conceded and congratulated the San Antonio native for her historic achievement. With her primary runoff victory, Valdez has become the first hispanic female and openly gay female to be nominated by a major party for governor of Texas. Her rival in November is current Governor, Republican Greg Abbott who is running for a second term claiming that Valdez is not the right candidate for the job and that she has not said whether she would raise taxes if elected.
